In need of an ice breaker? We think you'll find this a pretty "cool" way to spend the evening... and no need to worry about what to wear - you and your date will be stylishly dressed in matching designer silver capes, complete with hood!
Absolut Icebar London is the first permanent icebar in the UK located in the heart of Mayfair. The bar is kept at a chilly minus 5 degrees all year round and everything inside is made out of ice transported especially from the Torne River in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden. Yes, that includes the walls, the bar, the tables and even the glasses! Every six months the bar is re-built in a completely different design. In other words, you can use this venue for dates more than once and you wont get bored!
The Icebar operates in 40 minute time slots - yet another reason why this is such a great date venue. If you're running out of things to say you know that the evening has a cut off point, but if conversation is flowing at the speed of a melting ice cap then you can relax safe in the knowledge that you can while away the rest of the evening in the glamorous suroundings of the adjoining belowzero lounge+restaurant. Formerly the wine vaults for the English monarchy, belowzero still has a reputation for serving up fantastic food and drink.
By the end of a night at belowzero and the Absolut Icebar you will hopefully have every excuse to head home and adopt the penguins technique of shared bodily warmth to keep the cold out... If however 40 minutes surrounded by ice has made you feel like an intrepid explorer then why not sally forth to some of these other great venues?
See if you can get into the exclusive Momo (also on Heddon Street). The atmosphere in this North African bar is electric, with fantastic decor, food and music. Alternatively, if the bouncers aren't on your side at Momo head to Strawberry Moons for some good old fashioned cheesy dancing! Basically, you don't need to go much further than Heddon Street to ensure that you will be having a great date.
However, one final word of warning would be that the drinks at the Absolut Icebar aren't cheap, but then where else in London do you get to sip an "Absolut Icy River" out of an ice glass, perched on a moose hide whilst wearing a silver cape? Exactly.
Oh and by the way, the barmen wear ski suits!
