Okay, Beach Blanket Babylon may sound like a truly ridiculous name for a bar / restaurant combo, but it's a cracking venue. The decoration is an eclectic mix, with marble busts of emperors, mirrors, mosaics, glitter balls, topiary trees and urns. There is a feeling of a fairytale wonderland with the rooms all interconnected by tunnels, walkways and bridges. We suggest you get used to the layout before you have too many of their delicious cocktails!
You can stay in Beach Blanket Babylon for dinner, but we think you should be a bit more imaginative and find somewhere else. However, this leaves you with a dilemma, you have set the standard high and the dinner venue has to be as fabulous as the drinks venue. We suggest, rather than trying to find somewhere similar, you go for the complete opposite and head to Bumpkin. A bit left-field… but it might just work!
Bumpkin is a brilliant restaurant, which aims to bring the countryside to London. This is the sort of place you want to just ‘hang out’ in, there is a warm, buzzy atmosphere and a rustic interior. The menu is short and simple, but packed with yummy options and the food really is fabulous. Bumpkin is a rare find in Notting Hill because it remains chilled out and relaxed, and although beautifully decorated, doesn't try too hard to be trendy. Having said that, don't be too fooled by the appearance of rustic charm, it's still a highly sophisticated establishment, as the vast wine list proves!

 | bumpkin I went to Bumpkin at South Kensington with my boyfriend. It's a great place and really nicely done but I have to say our portions were so huge my meal was cold by the time I got to the end of it - I guess that's fine if you have a big appetite!
