Boating On The Serpentine

Miss Mary says…
This is a great activity date for a sunny day, and once you get your feet back on dry land there is plenty to occupy you and your date in Hyde Park...

Date Description

weekend dateearly days West, Central

Serpentine

We suggest you arrange to meet at Albert Gate (just by Knightsbridge Tube) and enjoy a simple stroll through this beautiful park, making your way north until you hit the Serpentine. The boathouse is on the north of the river and is open for business between March and October. For the boys, this is your chance to roll up your shirt sleeves and flex your muscles. For the girls, some flirtatious splashing should suffice.

Once you have returned your boat, grown up and started to behave yourself, head back into the park - there is still so much more fun to be had! Hyde Park has been entertaining the public since Charles I opened it in 1637 and has no doubt played host to many an amourous endeavour...

In addition to all the sports on offer in the park (horse riding, swimming, putting, bowls, tennis etc.) we suggest that you treat your date to an amazing picnic. After all, there's nothing more conducive to romance than settling on a rug in a beautiful park with a beautiful date (and a beautiful bottle of wine?!). If you're worried that your culinary sills and lack of matching tupperware might let you down, order a pre-prepared picnic. To really impress, with a bit of advance notice, The Bluebird Epicerie in Chelsea will prepare a hamper or picnic basket for you. Easier still, order one online!

If the weather turns against you then head down to Museum Road where you could drop in to the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum or theV&A. If something less scholarly is on your mind then perhaps drinks in the academic sounding Library Bar at the Lanesborough would be more appropriate...

battersea park lake
Not quite as glamorous but my boyfriend and I took a boat out on Battersea Park lake last weekend. It is a great option if you are south of the river and is perfect for a little half our romance!

Great suggestion...
I'm new to London and didn't really know about any of the parks. This was a great suggestion as my girlfriend and I felt like we back at home (Canada!) even though we were in the middle of London. The only problem was that it was pretty busy on sunny day... great place to go though, thanks.

Genius
I ordered a picnic from Bluebird and my girlfriend was seriously impressed - she wondered why I never cooked for her so eventually I had to own up! Great date especially if you put the effort in to arrange it rather than just wing it on the day.
