The Prince of Wales describes itself as ‘a country pub in the City’ and you can’t disagree. A charming and cosy pub that sits in a quiet square between the less quiet Kennington Lane and Kennington Park Road, close by to the Oval cricket ground. For a change from the usual ‘cricketness’ of the area, ask to borrow one of the pubs Boules sets and head out on to the square for a game - a great activity for an early date or indeed to settle old scores!
If you don’t want the fun to stop once the games are over, then there are some great places to continue on to in the local area…
Try The Lobster Pot, for a kitsch French seafood experience complete with piped sounds of the sea – sure to make you both chuckle! Don't worry though, the delicious food is nothing to laugh at. If your date isn't keen on seafood then you can always try the sister restaurant a couple of doors down, the Brasserie Toulouse Lautrec. They have live music every evening so even if you've eaten at the Lobster Pot you could always head along there afterwards for a night cap...
Alternatively back towards the Oval there's the lovely gastropub the Fentiman Arms, bursting with all warmth and friendliness that we've come to expect from Geronimo Inns.
