Cheyne Walk Brasserie

Miss Mary says…
An amazing restaurant tucked away behind the Embankment. It's perfect for a treat after a hard day's shopping on the King's Road - the ultimate relationship tester!

Date Description

early days West, South

This gorgeous Brasserie is chic, airy, wonderfully located and wonderfully French. Its close proximity to the bustling shops of the Kings Road, the tranquility of The Thames and the beauty of Battersea Park means that you really can do what you want with this date.

Our suggestion however is that you use this as a post shopping date. Whilst some of you might be recoiling in horror at this idea, a nice stroll down an attractive street, with a spot of window shopping and punctuated by plenty of coffee stops can actually be a pretty relaxing way of spending a day. The beauty of the Kings Road is that it is peppered with excellent bars and cafes from start to finish, so if it does all get too much for you there are plenty of excuses to take a break.

We suggest you start at Sloane Square and work your way down. If you need something to calm your nerves before you get going, the lovely Botanist is just across from the station and a good place to start. Just beware that it's in frighteningly close proximity to both Tiffany & Co. and Links of London - don't say we didn't warn you!

There are lots of high street shops you'll recognise as you work your way down, as well as some lovely 'boutiquey-type' shops, particularly as you head further west. Stop off for a coffee in the sun in Duke of York Square - it's got a lovely european feel to it (as long as it's not hosing down with rain of course…) Another great option for a sunny day is the Market Place Restaurant in Chelsea Farmers Market.

When you're done the Cheyne Walk Brasserie is, yes, on Cheyne Walk, just off Oakley Street. Make sure you've booked ahead as it can get pretty busy (we're not the only ones who've found this little gem). Have a well deserved glass of wine and settle down to enjoy a classic French Brasserie experience, done really really well. There's everything you'd expect; lots of wonderful seafood, an excellent 'au grill' selection - you can even try a Wagyu steak if you're feeling flush. Just make sure you leave enough room for pudding… oh, and maybe some cheese…

Top tip: If the date is a memorable one, there's a fabulous book called 'Kings Road: The Rise and Fall of the Hippest Street in the World' which would make an excellent Christmas or birthday pressie…! (See 'Get this Date' above)
