Don't underestimate the romantic power of going to the pictures - it has worked for more than a hundred years so something must be right!

Date Description

early days South, North, Central

The cinema is still a classic date but it has to be a retro cinema and dinner/drinks need to follow to bring this old school date up to date!

We've hand picked a selection of fantastic cinemas for you to take your date, ranging from the locals favourite Ritzy in Brixton to the stylish Everyman and Electric north of the river.

If you are looking to impress on a first date then the Electric or Everyman are where you need to be heading. Meet your date for a drink first, at the Electric Brasserie perhaps, and make sure that you've done your homework on the film you are seeing. At least that way you are guaranteed to have something to talk about... Settle down with your date and a bottle of wine in one of the legendary leather "beds" at the Electric, or a sofa for two at the Everyman, and watch the romance unfurl - on screen and off!

For a more chilled out 3rd or 4th date you can't go wrong with local favourites from the Picture House cinema group: all characterful small cinemas with a retro feel. The Clapham Picture House, Ritzy Brixton and The Gate Notting Hill are some of our favourites...

Once the show is over keep the momentum going and take your date for a drink or, even better, a late night meal. You've got two hours worth of movie to talk about if nothing else!

The cinema date has some great follow up date options which is always handy. If you're feeling like a romantic night in, then cook your date dinner and rent their favourite movie (you're bound to have discovered what it is whilst at the cinema). If you feel you've spent enough time sitting down then what about a London Film walk? However, if being outside is more your style then try a movie al fresco? (see Somerset House, or The Berkeley Hotel)

Oh and I nearly forgot - word has it that one might enjoy a cinema date even more if you're seated in the back row...

Amazing!
I went to the Everyman in Hampstead which was AMAZING - I'd never even heard of it before! My date was very impressed with my knowledge of cool places to go in London. Thanks!
