Miss Mary says…
If you're a W14 local and don't want to travel far or fancy a bit of culture in a quirky location then The Curtains Up is the perfect location...

Date Description

early days West

During the Queen's tennis tournament this Baron's Court pub heaves with people either post watching a match or post working behind the scenes, so it's probably worth avoiding around the second week of June if you're on an intimate date! But any other time of the year this pub is a great local, only improved we think (depending on how old school you like your pubs) by the recent takeover by Geronimo Inns.

Curtains Up

But this date isn't solely about the pub, it's also about the theatre downstairs. Now don't expect West End granduer here - vast it aint! It's a tiny theatre in the basement which in the heat of summer (unless Geronimo have remedied this situation) gets very hot! - but PLEASE don't let it put you off as they show great plays largely "in-the-round" or at least on three sides, due to the layout of the space, so you really feel part of the action.  Plus the tickets are reasonably cheap so it's credit crunch culture which we love! You can't see whats showing on the Geronimo web site for some reason but call the pub for info of what's on or use the web site off west end.com

Curtains Up external                    Curtains Up

We see a lovely uncomplicated evening panning out thus  - meet in the bar nice and early and grab a drink and a bite to eat, head down stairs in plenty of time to bag yourselves a good seat as your tickets won't have reserved seat numbers. If there is an interval The Curtains Up is well set up to respond to the rush to the bar, but there often isn't an interval because of the type of plays that show there, just check when you book. Then upstairs for drinks and some post play discussion.
