Exmouth Market is a fantastic and original date with loads of options. It's perfect for an afterwork date as it's a stones throw from the City. Located on a vibrant pedestrianised street in the heart of Clerkenwell, flanked on either side by a mixture of independent design boutiques and long-standing traditional shops, Exmouth Market is a great example of "village London". By day there is a market, hence the name, and in the evening it buzzes with people under crisscrossing fairy lights above. Our verdict? Classic date atmosphere!
The market has a great choice of shops, delicious restaurants and fun bars to satisfy even the most discerning shopper and gastronome. One of our favourites is Medcalf, completely independent of chains and celebrity chefs, it's a real hidden gem in this corner of town.
After supper why not go to Dollar, a Vegas-styled restaurant a few doors down for drinks? Don’t be put off by the garish exterior; it has an opulently decorated downstairs bar where you can lounge with your date in an exposed brick and velvet clad booth. If you get stuck for conversation, the abundance of mirrors will allow you to indulge in some surreptitious people watching! Depending on your taste, you could switch these two venues around and eat at Dollar instead, as Medcalf is also great for drinks, particularly if it’s a warm evening and you can get a table in the outside courtyard.
