Kentish Coast - Broadstairs*

Date Description |

Broadstairs was voted runner up as the best seaside town in Britain in 2007 by the Guardian and by any standards it is one of the most beautiful coastal towns you will ever see. It is also steeped in literary history as Dickens regularly holidayed there and it is home to 'Bleak House'. There are also many fantastic restaurants and bars, many of which have an Italian flavour.
1. Take the train from London Victoria direct to Broadstairs. Journey times are approximately 1 hour 45 minutes and trains run every 30 minutes. Ticket price is currently £25.30 for a day return. Buy your breakfast at 'Paul' bakery outside platform 2 at Victoria.
2. Arrive in Broadstairs. Walk down the high street, browse in the shops or have a coffee on the front either at the historic 'Royal Albion Hotel' or at the cafe on the pier.
3. Eat lunch at 'Osteria Posillipo', an affordable but very high quality Italian restaurant voted by Antonio Carluccio as the 4th best Italian restaurant in the UK. If the weather is nice, eat al fresco! You will need to book.
4. Swim in the main 'Viking' bay or one of the smaller neighbouring bays, or just sunbathe on the sandy beaches.
5. Eat an ice-cream at 'Morelli's' ice cream parlour, 100 years old and purveyor of ice cream to Harrods and Selfridges.
6. Have a beer on the front at The Tartar Frigate. If asked, they'll serve beer in a plastic beaker that you can take outside.
7. Return to London refreshed!
