Don't dismiss Leicester Square as just for tourists! There are a few hidden gems perfect for a date.
Now you wouldn’t normally think of the Leicester Square area as being somewhere you would want to go for a date unless it was for the theatre. However, there are a couple of options you could try... You could visit the Photographer’s Gallery, which is open until 8pm on Thursdays and 6pm all other nights. It's the largest public gallery in London dedicated to photography, and if either of you are photography fanatics then try to get to one of their fascinating talks.

Afterwards you could head to Le Beaujolais, which is a tiny French wine bar filled with all sorts of memorabilia (or some may say tat) including numerous corks and some ropey old posters. It has charm though, something that is usually lacking in this area, and often a rather tipsy owner! There's often some good blues and jazz music playing, adding to the atmosphere.
After a warm-up drink, stroll south down St Martin’s Lane for dinner at Cafe Koha, which has a variety of European dishes with Italian and French influences. This is a local favourite and has very good food in simple surroundings between two theatres. Not too flash – a perfect way to end a first date.
