Date Description

early days Central

Here at the Great Date Guide we are very much in favour of being tourists in our own city. London has so much to offer and it's often overlooked by the people that live and work in its midst. Take the London Duck Tours for example - not your classic date but, as it turns out, a real winner!

We went on a cold a cold wet day and we still loved it, but let’s be honest, it's probably at its best on a sunny day! You are in a confined space for just over an hour (an ex World War II DUKW to be precise, the most successful amphibious vehicle ever invented – used in the D Day landings too!) so this isn't one for a first date but it's perfect for an early days date or for something different to do with a long term partner. The guides on the Ducks are fantastic - we learnt so many entertaining facts about London that we chuckled our way through the tour.

No matter how old you are, when the Duck hits the water you can't help but feel excited. Driving into the Thames has got to be something that every Londoner does once!  The experience is surreal to say the least…

Once you're back on dry land your options are endless. You'll have plenty to talk about post Duck so we suggest grabbing a coffee from one of the numerous cafes along the Southbank and taking a stroll.  Day or night there is always something to see there from street theatre to skate boarding to book-selling! Wander at your leisure but we'd recommend going as far as the Globe - you'll get amazing views of St. Paul's and you'll take in the picturesque Gabriel's Wharf and the striking Tate Modern on your way. Also, by that point you’ll need a drink, and possibly something to eat. Head into the Swan pub at the Globe where they have great live music and a good wine list too.

We would really recommend this date – Ducks aren't just for tourists!

great date :)
Would highly recommend this for a date. Something fun and different to do in the day - perfect for a Sunday afternoon in London. You can easily spend the rest of the day/night on the Southbank as there is so much to see and do. This is a really great suggestion!
