Date Description

early daysfirst date West, Central

Have you ever noticed that when people walk around art galleries they always look incredibly serious? The National Portrait Gallery is different - you can't help but smile and enjoy yourself. There's such a huge variety of styles that we guarantee that both of you will like, or even just admire, at least some of the art and it creates the perfect opportunity to suss out your date's preferences. Even if you defy the odds and hate everything, at least you can talk passionately about what you hate! There are late openings too with the gallery open until 9pm on Thursdays and Fridays, so if it's an evening date you wanted, no problems.

To start the evening, we suggest you begin with a post work drink at the bar on the top floor of the National Portrait Gallery.

Even if you can’t get a table by the window, you will still be able to appreciate the incredible views out over Nelson's Column and beyond.  After drinks wander around the gallery and soak up the culture...

For dinner head to J Sheekey (sister restaurant to the Ivy) for some delicious seafood. This hugely popular restaurant is hidden away from the West End crowds down a pedestrian cut-through.  There's a variety of seating from high stools at the counter to leather banquettes and intimate, wood-paneled alcoves to get cosy in.

If you're having a great night and you don’t want it to end, an original idea for a late night drink is to head to the Oxygen Bar. Oxygen is the only licensed retailer of pure oxygen in London. There is a main bar, a more intimate lounge or, if the oxygen has worked its magic, a full-on basement nightclub.

great
The bar at the top of the Portrait Gallery is a really top tip for a dating venue. I've had lots of great dates there: convenient, cultural, it's a winner!
