Date Description

early daysfirst date Central

Impress your date with your arty side then whisk them upstairs to the top floor bar where you can see right across Trafalgar Square to the Millennium Wheel, Big Ben and many more delights of the London skyline...

The National Portrait Gallery's fantastic roof-top restaurant is open late on a Thursday and Friday night to coincide with the Gallery's extended opening hours. It is a real find in this part of town where overpriced tourist traps seem to have taken over.

Queen Elizabeth II, Michael Leonard, 1985-6

Why not have a quick look at the National Portrait Gallery's website to see what's on at the moment - they always put on fantastic exhibitions, but if nothing appeals then it is worth just wandering through the galleries and celebrity spotting amongst the famous faces on the walls. You could find yourself gazing into the eyes of Her Majesty the Queen, Ian Botham or even Mick Jagger... and perhaps more importantly, those of your date!

If you are both keen for a fully fledged art extravaganza then don't forget that The National Gallery is just next door. The gallery houses a phenomenal collection of Western European art, including "sunflowers" by van Gogh and it's free which gives you a little more money to spend on your date.

Art not really your thing? Well don't be put off, the Portrait Restaurant is still a fantastic venue to meet for a drink before heading elsewhere. In fact it's renowned for its fabulous wine list.  The Colluseum and the Haymarket theatre are both within walking distance as is the ever enticing Soho...

Finally, if you have had a great date it might be a nice idea to have a look in the bookshop and buy a coffee table book of the exhibition that you have seen. A perfect present to give to your date for their birthday... or your anniversary - are we getting ahead of ourselves here?

Great
Brilliant! What a great bar - a bit expensive but worth it for the central location and the veiws. It really did the trick...

Great
This is a great date. I took a girl on a second date here. We went to the Face of Fashion exhibition on a Thursday night and then had drinks in the roof top restaurant. She LOVED the exhibition and didn't even know that the bar existed so that was a result!
