Date Description

weekend dateearly days West, South

The largest Royal Park in London, Richmond Park is guaranteed to provide enough sights and activities for even the most weary of daters. Despite the perception of it being a West London playground, the overland train from Waterloo takes just 20 minutes for those coming from further afield and affords organised couples the option of taking their own bike – a good, if not stupidly healthy, way of seeing the 2500 acres of park.

Richmond Park

Whether by bike, car, foot, or even on a horse hired from one of the local stables, a must see is the spectacular view of the City of London. On a clear summer’s day St Paul’s and its surroundings glisten from over ten miles away. The best viewing point is on King Henry’s Mound, in the grounds of Georgian mansion Pembroke Lodge, where you'll find a specially maintained avenue of trees lining the view. Alternatively, head deep into the park and forget about the city completely!

Richmond Park     Fallow Deer

We suggest, weather permitting, you take a rug and a delicious picnic (plus the obligatory bottle of prosecco or champagne) and find yourself a secluded romantic spot. If you're lucky, you may be joined by some of the 600 red and fallow deer (although don't get too close if they too have romance on the mind..!). Failing that, listen out for the many parakeets who have made the park their home. Folk law would have it that Jimi Hendrix released the first breeding pair into the wild somewhere near the park... allegedly…!

If you're after a real treat (or if the weather's not playing ball with your picnic plans) head down to Petersham Nurseries for an award winning lunch in its fabulous restaurant. This will particularly impress a stylish but organic loving and green fingered date - Petersham has been described as the ‘most fashionable nursery in Britain’ and featured in Vogue magazine. If the lunch option is a bit too spenny, settle for a cup of tea and your choice from an incredible selection of cakes and goodies in the cafe next door.  Chances are you'll find Miss Mary there too...

I agree!
This is one of the top London dates in my opinion. You can really escape from the world in Richmond Park - no matter how busy it is you can always find a quiet spot! And Petersham Nurseries is divine! You will earn serious brownie points taking any lady here!
