Rye is just about our favourite great date weekend away - especially now that we have found a local trattoria serving the best Italian food in England!
Drive down to Rye from London (it takes about 2 hours from south London) and prepare for a weekend of fresh air and fab food! We would recommend staying in The George in Rye, a fantastic boutique hotel in the heart of the town. As you'll be arriving late why not book in for supper in the hotel restaurant to save you finding your bearings in town? The food is impressive, with the chef Rodrigo Grossman hailing from one of our favourite London restaurant's, Moro. The restaurant has a great atmosphere - buzzy, but not noisy, and the staff are incredibly friendly.
After a hearty breakfast at the hotel why not head out for a day of activity? For those with an eye for a bargain there is some great antiquing to be done in Rye, but for those wishing to burn a few more calories we suggest a bracing walk along the endless sandy beach at Camber Sands. If you are still up for some action then head back to Rye and climb the church tower to be rewarded with sensational views across the Channel, the historic town and the surrounding countryside.

After all this hard work you'll be in need of some relaxation, and what better place to unwind than at the award winning Rye Retreat where both men and women can enjoy fabulous Aveda treatments. We particularly recommend the Elemental Nature Massage.
Post treatment you'll probably feel half a sleep so a DVD (the George has a brilliantly put together list to choose from) and some room service is likely to be just what you're looking for. However, if you do feel like venturing out then we've heard that the Fish Cafe and the Landgate Bistro are both excellent choices.
Sunday morning - go easy on the breakfast! Why? Because we suggest that you book a table at the Tuscan Kitchen for lunch, and trust us, you want to be hungry when you get there! This small trattoria serves quite simply some of the best Italian food that we have tasted in a long time. Don't expect London restaurant service, or the option of a pizza and diet coke as you'll be disappointed. Do expect fantastic Tuscan cooking in a relaxed and informal environment and you will be very very happy.
After lunch give yourself a good half an hour or so to wander around town before heading back to London as you'll probably need to work off a bit of your lunch! There is a great old fashioned sweet shop called Britcher & Rivers that is worth popping into to stock up on some old favourites for the journey home.
Here at the great date guide.com we think this is a near perfect weekend date - we'd love to hear what you think!

![]() | a great weekend I've spent a few memorable weekends in Rye with my girlfriend and I can't recommend it highly enough. It's got such a lovely feel to it. The view from the top of the church is really something - sadly my girlfriend's scared of heights - so I couldn't entice her up there! But the weekends there have been so special. We stayed in the George too and LOVED it. If you've got a couple of hours to spare head to Winchelsea and have a look round. It's a fascinating beautiful old village on top of a hill, only about 4 miles from Rye. Reviewer : Jamie Submitted : 2010-02-04 16:40:43 |
