A little gem. Sir John Soane's Museum only takes 20 minutes to look round but it's amazing and completely mad! Set up by the great man as a treasure chest for his goodies, it was left to the public because he felt his sons were not worthy recipients. Instead he wanted it left for 'amateurs and students'. We'd class ourselves in the first category! It is actually rather hard to describe – it's not really a museum at all but a house which contains incredible collections of… all sorts of things. Amazing paintings, stonework, relics, furniture, books, artefacts etc.

The Museum is actually lit by candlelight on the first Tuesday of every month (between 6 and 9pm) which makes it even better for a date. The candlelit tour is as much about experiencing the house as it is about the collections, and best of all, it is free!

However, if you want to do this (which frankly, every culture loving Londoner should!) you need to get there early because it is extremely popular and you'll find yourself queing on the pavement - not very romantic! You could find yourself waiting for an hour and a half* but it is absolutely worth it in our opinion. The best plan would be for one of you to get there early and save a place in the queue, perhaps with some plastic cups and a bottle of wine!

Pearl Bar       Pearl      Pearl

Having ticked off the culture, time to eat! We recommend Pearl Restaurant which is close enough to the museum to walk, and a real treat.  Although not a cheap dinner, it will certainly impress your date.  The interior of Pearl exudes opulence with trails of hand strung pearls, and, you've guessed it, pearl chandeliers. It will provide the "Pearlfict" romantic end to your day!

* Or possibly even being turned away - never mind, you can head to dinner early and try again next month!

Underrated
This is one of my favourite spots in London. This small museum is tucked away behind Holborn station and most days only has a short queue. I've been several times with different friends and everyone has found it to be astounding. This makes a fantastic afternoon date. They are not kidding about the long line on the night viewing, it stretches around the block!
