Guaranteed success! It doesn't get much more magical than ice-skating around the Christmas tree at Somerset House and as we hope you all know by now, ice skating makes a great date! However, it's not all about the winter. The outdoor film screenings and concerts in the summer time make this a pretty perfect all year round date venue. In fact, Somerset House on a warm sunny evening is one of our favourite places to be. Whether you're listening to music or watching a film, it is quirky, it's cool and it's London at it's dating best!
The Film4 Summer Screen returns each August, transforming the magnificent 18th century courtyard of Somerset House into a full-scale, open-air cinema with state-of-the art giant screen, 35mm projection and surround-sound. They screen a mixture of classics, modern favourites and exclusive previews. Previous highlights include the old school favourite, The Lost Boys, as well as the action special, Kill Bill Volume 1. The chilled out atmosphere is perfect for a date, with audiences encouraged to set up camp with rugs and cushions and a glass or two of Pimms.

If music is more your thing then the Somerset House Summer Series of open air concerts takes place each July and makes a magical evening out. To give you an idea, the 2010 lineup featured impressive performances by Air, Noah and the Whale, N Dubz, The xx and Florence and the Machine, to name but a few. Great artists in a great venue with great company = a great date in our book.

![]() | great for summer or winter I've been to Somerset House in the summer for a film and in the winter for ice skating. I think it is one of London's best dating venues - I love it! Definitely agree that you need to take a cushion for the cinema though, and comfy socks for ice skating! X Reviewer : Caz Submitted : 2008-12-02 01:56:49 |
![]() | cinema I took my boyfriend to the open air cinema to see an old black and white Italian movie.... it was such a great evening - despite a bit of dodgy weather! My top tips would be to take an umbrella, warm clothes and something seriously comfy to put under your bum!!! Reviewer : Brixton Babe Submitted : 2008-10-14 22:12:28 |
![]() | fantastic What a great venue. I've lived in London for years but had never got round to going to Somerset House. I took my date to the Courtauld Gallery because I knew she loved Impressionist paintings. We then had lunch in the Admiralty Restuarant which served great food. We had a really fantastic time and I'll definitely be booking in for the open air cinema in the summer. Reviewer : Simon Submitted : 2008-03-23 20:11:18 |
