This is a date for the brave; you have to be happy walking around in your swimmers and you need to make an executive decision as to whether you think your date will think this is fun, or hell!
If you don't know it's there, it's hard to believe that there's a 25m outdoor pool in central London that's heated all year round (not that we'd dream of going near it other than on a hot, sunny day). What's more, it's on Shaftesbury Avenue. Ok, Oasis Pool is not especially smart but it's clean, costs about £3 to get in and there is what claims to be a sun terrace so you can lie in the sun too!
We think the swimming makes a great date as long as you combine it with a delicious lunch afterwards. We suggest Incognico, a charming French brasserie style restaurant with delicious food (and if you want a boozy lunch there is an extensive drinks menu).
If swimming's what you're after, there is another smarter (and pricier) option. Head to the Berkeley Hotel, which has a rooftop pool with stunning views over Knightsbridge and Hyde Park. It costs a fairly frightening £65 for a day pass, including access to the gym, but then you do get to pretend you are on holiday while basking in the centre of London.
