If you are looking for something a little less formal for a first date, or quite frankly at any time during a blossoming relationship, I recommend the following:
Start at The Cow, Westbourne Park Road. The Cow is not like many, or any, of the modern day gastro pubs. It is quite small and has an excellent buzz all through the year. I recommend getting there before your date arrives, getting your name down on the list for a table at the back (not upstairs) for dinner, and then enjoy a drink (the Guinness is some of the best in London) at the bar or a table in the front part of the room. Should you fancy a bite to eat, you can then head to the back to sample some of the excellent food. Nothing fancy, just simple, well cooked food. The Entrecote is amazing and there is usually a special or two.
Should you fancy a change of scenery, head to Crazy Homies (about 100m from the pub) and enjoy a marguerita... they are superb! Being a Mexican restaurant, the collection of tequila is excellent, not the cheapo stuff you get elsewhere...
Once they have worked their magic, and they will, you may feel in the mood for a few more drinks and a dance. Ruby & Sequoia has a great little bar/dance floor downstairs and plays some pretty good music… if you are into that sort of thing.
Should you get to closing time at R&S you are clearly having a good time!
