The George In Rye is a fantastic boutique hotel in East Sussex. It dates from 1575 but has all the modern luxuries any girl could want in the 21st Century! It's comfortable and quirky and totally relaxed, which makes it perfect for a chilled out weekend escape from London.
Drive down to the George on Friday night after work and make sure you have booked a table in the restaurant. The food is delicious and the staff are really friendly and helpful - my boyfriend spent most of the evening talking to our waiter about Italian football clubs!
On Saturday you could head to Camber Sands for a walk along the beach - breathtaking in the winter, a little overcrowded in the summer!
Once you are back from the beach you should have a wonder around Rye which is a fascinating town - lots of antique shops if you are in to that sort of thing. Then you could head to the Aveda day spa for a massage before heading out for supper. There are numerous good restaurants in Rye, particularly for sea food, but you could always stay in and have room service! We ordered up a delicious fondue which we ate in our four poster bed whilst watching The Aviator (borrowed from their free DVD library).
On Sunday we checked out of the George and drove over to Winchelsea, another beautiful old town, for a quick stroll then headed back towards London breaking our journey at the romantically ruined Bodiam Castle.
This is a fantastically romantic weekend away and I would recommend it to anyone!
