Pancake Day

Are you dating the perfect tosser? March 8th is Shrove Tuesday and it’s the perfect day to test that wrist action! There are plenty of options for a flippin’ good date….especially if you decide to make a day of it.
You could start off by watching some of our beloved politicians taking part in the Parliamentary Pancake race (in Victoria Tower Gardens outside the Houses of Parliament, next to the river). This year's event will be officially started and invigilated by Julie Etchingham, ITN newscaster, and as usual will help to raise awareness and funds for the not-for-profit organisation, Rehab - so there's a very good reason to go and join in the fun. Of course you could get involved in a pancake race yourself if you'd rather... The Great Spitalfields pancake race is accepting applications today!
If watching the 'Lords-a-leaping' has given you an appetite for the good stuff, head on down to your local Giraffe and 'pimp your pancake'. You'll get three pancakes with four toppings of your choice (including maltesers, chocolate chips and marshmallows along with all the usuals) for just £5.95. Better still, if you're a grown-up (ahem...) you can even get a shot of Baileys, Grand Marnier or brandy for a small supplement. There's a prize for the best looking stack, so be inventive!
Other good spots for some pancake gobbling are My Old Dutch, with three venues across town dedicated purely to this delicacy, or if you prefer the thicker US pancake then try the Eagle Bar Diner and add a couple of cocktails to the mix.
Of course the other option is to indulge in a spot of pancake DIY which can be a lot of fun. Just watch you don't make the same mistake as our bad date blogger! To avoid disaster, we suggest getting a few tips from the pros at the Fortnum & Mason pancake demonstration first...
