What's On - January 2012

Yes, Christmas is over once again and in truth we've had a pretty grey, wet and windy start to the year. But never fear, here at The Great Date Guide we've cherry picked some real corkers to lift your spirits this January, so break open that brand new diary and put some 'dates' in it!

1) London Short Film Festival (Multiple Venues: 6th - 15th January)

Cutting edge, UK independant film. If you fancy yourself as the 'edgy' sort, or perhaps you just fancy someone who does, this fantastic showcase of the very best in UK film talent is the one for you. With a vast array of both new and well established names, this is not to be missed.

2) Cirque Du Soleil: Totem (Royal Albert Hall: 6th January - 16th February)

The incredible Cirque Du Soleil returns this January with the magical Totem - one of their most spectacular and popular shows to date. This particular show follows the journey of evolution and whether you're a Cirque regular or have never been before, we guarantee you'll be enchanted. Buy tickets now

3) London Ice Sculpting Festival (Canary Wharf: 13th - 14th January)

In town for a few days only (for obvious reasons), this display of genius will really blow your socks off and makes for a wonderfully unusual winter date.

4) Burns Night (Boisdale - Belgravia/Bishopsgate/Canary Wharf: 25th January)

Yes, the Boisdale is the place to be to celebrate the bizarre traditions of Burns night. Your haggis will be piped to your table and duly addressed with the verses of An Ode to Haggis by Robbie Burns. There'll be a 'noggin' of whisky served with the haggis, plus neaps and tatties galore. The Burns night celebrations run from 16th - 28th of January, depending on which restaurant you attend. Check the above link for more information.

5) The Telegraph Adventure Travel Show (Olympia: 28th - 29th January)

Remind yourselves what travel can really mean at this properly exciting Adventure Travel Show. It's all about 'off the beaten track' adventures, so why not take your date along and show them the explorer in you... Better still, our friends at Hooley Time can get you reduced price tickets. Just quote ‘HOOLEYTIME’ when booking tickets online at www.adventureshow.com or when calling 0871 230 7159. (Calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras)

6) La Soiree (Camden Roundhouse: until January 29th)

Only recently attended by Miss Mary herself, this incredible mish mash of burlesque, cabaret, comedy and circus style stunts is one of our all time favourites, and it's back in Camden for 2012 - hooray! You only have until the end of the month to catch it though, so get a move on! Book tickets now
