What's On - October 2011

Even we've been surprised by how much there is going on in London this month! With the now famous London Restaurant Festival, Chocolate Week (yes, it really does exist) and the great Hampstead Heath Conker Championships amongst other delights, you won't even notice the passing of summer. Oh, and did we mention Halloween….?

1) London Restaurant Festival (London-wide: 3-17th October)

A celebration of eating out - sounds right up our street! The mainstay of the festival are the 'festival menus', created by the hundreds of participating restaurants and offered at a range of prices to suit any budget. There are also lots of exciting events, our absolute favourite being the 'Gourmet Odyssey', where you eat your first course, main and dessert in 3 different London restaurants, carted between them either on Routemaster buses or on foot.

2) Hampstead Heath Conker Championships (Hampstead Heath: 9th October)

From 11am at the Parliament Hill Bandstand, the 10th annual Conker Championships hits Hampstead Heath. Expect magnificent shows of strength and ferocious competition as rivals battle it out with... a nut on a string…?! It's free and this year they're attempting to beat the current Guiness World Record for the most participants - so do your bit and join in. (Conkers provided!)

3) Chocolate week (Multiple venues: 10-16th October)

Centred around the two day 'Chocolate Unwrapped" show at Vinopolis in Borough, here we have a whole week dedicated to… yes… chocolate. All you really need to know is that there are tastings, lots of tastings...

4) BFI London Film Festival (Multiple venues: 12-27th October)

It's the 55th BFI London Film Festival this year, which just shows what a successful and popular festival this is. Showcasing the best new films from around the world, this is one of the few international film festivals where tickets are open to everyone (not just 'industry types'), so this is your chance to get involved.

6) Frieze Art Fair (Regents Park: 13-16th October)

Featuring over 170 of the most exciting contemporary art galleries in the world, this is not to be missed and would make a perfect date for those arty types amongst you.

7) Affordable Art Fair (Battersea: 20-23rd October / Hampstead: 27-30th October)

Stroll around Battersea park or Hampstead Heath, hand in hand, gazing at wonderful art and assessing whether your artistic tastes are compatible. Make the date unforgettable by buying your loved one a little something to remember it by (see it as a long term investment…)

8) Relentless Freeze Festival (Battersea Power Station: 28-29th October)

Fantastic music and snow sports in the iconic Battersea Power Station, complete with 500 tonnes of real snow and a 32m high jump! Well, if we've got to accept that winter is on its way, we may as well look on the bright side.

9) Halloween (Anywhere your imagination takes you: 31st October)

Pumpkins at the ready, it's that time of year again. Whether it's a graveyard picnic or a spooky supper out, Halloween brings an opportunity for a fun, light-hearted date. We just hope your partner of choice is more angel than demon...
