What's on in April

There are plenty of things to get excited about this April. Firstly, winter is at last OFFICIALLY on its way out, and secondly, for this month in particular, London will be the unquestionable romantic capital of the world. Yes, it's time for the wedding of all weddings as William and Kate tie the knot in Westminster Abbey. Finally, did anyone mention the words; TWO BANK HOLIDAY WEEKENDS...?!
1) Cult of Beauty Exhibition (Victoria & Albert: From 2nd April 2011)
Celebrating 'Art for art's sake', this vivid exhibition explores the late 19th Century movement of Aestheticism and gives you a great excuse to visit the fantastic V&A and pretend to be all cultured...
2) Mothers Day (3rd April 2011)
Perhaps not the most obviously dating orientated celebration, but included here so that you don't forget it! For those of our readers with children however, this is a great day for you men to take your ladies out on a well deserved date. Our friends at London RIB Voyages are running a 'Mum's go free' when dad and 2 kids book on any same departure. Sounds like a pretty good deal to us!
3) Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London (Royal Albert Hall: 3rd April 2011)
This most prestigious of orchestras is playing a few London concerts throughout April, May and June, but this, the first, is set to be a classic. Paying tribute to the genius of Tchaikovsky and featuring four of his most well known scores (including the oh so romantic Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture) this has great date written all over it...
4) London Marathon (17th April 2011)
Again, not an overly romantic day but a great London event none the less. If you're stuck for something to do, grab your date and go and have a look - it's a truly uplifting experience even if you're not cheering for anyone in particular!
5) Shakespeare's birthday (23rd April 2011)
What better excuse to get yourself a pair of tickets to one of the Bard's masterpieces. How about Hamlet at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre? Have dinner before hand and then watch as your date falls under the spell of the great one…
4) St George's Day (Trafalgar Square: 23rd April 2011)
March gave us St David and St Patrick, and now it's England's turn. The main focus of the celebrations will be in Trafalgar Square, where a concert to close 'Rhythm of London Week' is being held, but you can guarantee that most of London will be getting involved in one way or another.
5) Easter Sunday (24th April 2011)
The Christian Church's most important celebration of the year plus oodles of chocolate eggs, sunny park walks and spring bunnies. What's not to like? How about an Easter picnic to celebrate the day with your loved one?
6) London Burlesque Week (26th - 30th April 2011)
We just love a bit of burlesque (see one of our favourite dates, Afternoon Tease at Volupte) and the fact that London gets a whole week dedicated to it is just fantastic news! Showcasing the most eclectic and diverse acts you can imagine, the events are described as glamorous and tastefully risqué. Sounds exciting...
7) The Royal Wedding (29th April 2011)
Last but not least, this is perhaps THE date of the year for those of us who love romance and love London - yes, that's us! Whether you're planning to line the street and flag wave, have your own London street party or simply watch it on the telly at home, lets all take this opportunity to revel in a bit of royal romance.
PS - Keep your eyes glued to the site as we've got some very exciting competitions coming up to mark the big day!
