What's on in June

Arguably one of London's finest months in terms of fabulous events! The open air theatre and opera venues spring to life, there's the truly magnificent Taste of London festival in Regents Park and then of course the internationally renowned Royal Ascot and Wimbledon Tennis to look forward to. Trust us, you're not going to be short of something to do this month...

1) Regent's Park Open Air Theatre (Regent's Park: 19th May - 10th September 2011)

How we love summer in London's parks. It's THE time for unusual and romantic dates, and this gorgeous outdoor theatre is one of our favourites. The 2011 season starts with Lord of the Flies (19th May - 18th June), followed by the fantastic Beggar's Opera (23rd June - 23rd July), with Pericles and Crazy for You running towards the end of the season. Picnics at the ready…

2) MINT Polo in the Park (Hurlingham Park: 3rd - 5th June 2011)

An awesome few days of international polo, glamour and champagne sipping. There's a Veuve Clicquot champagne garden, bars by Mahiki and the Punch Bowl Pub and handsome polo players in abundance… Get your tickets here!

3) Holland Park Opera (Holland Park: 7th June - 13th August 2011)

Yes, this fabulous semi-permanent Opera venue opens its doors for the 2011 season with Don Pasquale on 7th June. With performances of this and 6 other operas including The Marriage of Figaro and Fantastic Mr Fox (?), it's time to gather your picnic and go!

4) Trooping the Colour (Horse Guards Parade / Buckingham Palace: 11th June 2011)

Join the Queen in the official celebrations for her birthday (her actual birthday was in April, but who cares, she's the Queen!) All the pomp and ceremony that we've recently reminded ourselves that we love, plus another 'balcony moment' with an RAF fly-by.

5) Royal Ascot (Ascot Racecourse: 14th - 18th June 2011)

Horses, money and fancy hats… Royal Ascot is a British Institution, and if you've never been before, why not make 2011 the year of the horse?! Thursday 16th is Ladies Day for all you fashionistas out there, but all four days will undoubtedly be spectacular.

6) Taste of London (Regents Park: 16th - 19th June 2011)

This has to be one of GDG's favourite events of the year, if not THE favourite event. It's foodie heaven as London's top restaurants descend on Regents Park and thrill us with samples of haut cuisine served on paper plates and paid for with the equivalent of monopoly money!!! Inspired.

We've got a free pair of tickets to the Friday evening session to give away - click here for your chance to win!

7) Wimbledon (Wimbledon: 20th June - 3rd July 2011)

The world's favourite tennis event is almost here, and whether you're an avid tennis fan or not, it's an event which we can all enjoy. It's classic english summertime at it's best - Pimms, strawberries, ice cream and Cliff Richard - need I say more? Of course there'll be the usual Murray-mania hype, and the inevitable disappointment that seems to accompany all British tennis players, but we'll love the whole experience none the less. Bring it on!
