What's On in March

March. The dawn of all things Spring-like and we've got a 'spring' in our step just thinking about it! There are a whole host of exciting events on this month, including 2 National Days, Pancake Day and the legendary Boat Race. Time to start filling your diary...

1) St David's Day (1st March 2011)

Poor old St David never gets quite the same reception as St Patrick, and whilst you're sure to spot a few daffodils and leeks around London on 1st March, there is no 'official' London celebration. So, if you or your date are Welsh, it'll have to be a bit of a DIY affair this year. How about a trip to Borough Market to select the best Welsh cheeses, patês etc and then celebrating with an indoor picnic?

2) Pancake Day (8th March 2011)

Traditionally the day to use up all of your unwanted eggs, milk and butter before the onset of Lent's 40 day fast, it's now just a great excuse to enjoy these yummy creations with lashings of lemon and sugar! In London there is also the chance to partake in Pancake Races, with the Great Spitalfields Pancake Race being probably one of the best known. Download your application pack today.

3) High Tea at The Marylebone Hotel (Marylebone: 9th March 2011)

Cake lovers unite, it's tea-party time! Feast on the very best in French patisserie, carefully prepared for you by the Superior students of Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts School. Each month this tea-time extravaganza is put on at 108 Marylebone Lane to showcase the skills of these culinary experts in training… and we're more than happy to sample their wares! There's not much info about this on their website, so give them a call to make your reservation.

4) Champagne & Cheese Tasting (South Kensington: 10th March 2011)

We've only recently discovered the regular wine and cheese tasting events at the fantabulous cheese shop that is La Cave à Fromage. They're held every other Thursday, with a different theme for each one. Once a month there's also a special champagne and cheese evening… what's not to like?

5) St Patrick's Day (13th - 17th March 2011)

London will be awash with Guiness, four leaf clovers and leprochauns for a whole 5 days of Irish celebrations. The Mayor of London's St Patrick's Day Parade is on Sunday 13th March this year with a colourful array of floats, marching bands, live music and dance. There'll be no short supply of pubs joining in on the action either...

6) The Cuban Brothers (Kensal Green: 18th March 2011)

Hilarious and soulful… it may be an odd combination, but The Cuban Brothers make it work. They've hosted the NME awards, they can count Elton John amongst their fans, and their live Havana style performances are something else! See them for just £3 a ticket at Paradise by Way of Kensal Green - not to be missed.

7) The Boat Race (The Thames: 26th March 2011)

Cambridge won it last year, so can Oxford settle the score in 2011? Starting at Putney Bridge and working their way at breakneck speed down to Chiswick bridge, this annual race makes a great day out, whoever you're supporting. There are some great pubs and restaurants along the route so why not make a date of it?!
