What's on in May

There are many many reasons to love May. It's the unofficial start to the summer, the season for British asparagus, rhubarb and elderflower and it's usually crammed full of bank holidays (Diamond Jubilee's aside). In fact it's such a good month that we get one bank holiday just to celebrate its arrival!
If you need even more reasons to be happy in May, have a look below at some of the exciting events taking place in London this month…
1) May Day (1st May, bank holiday Monday 7th May)
Whether you're planning on dancing around the maypole, crowing a Queen of the May of simply enjoying a well deserved lie in, this bank holiday seems to come just when we all really need a break. Maybe perhaps the rain could take a break too...?
2) World Burlesque Games 2012 (Various London venues: 7th - 13th May)
Really not sure we need to add much here... so much fun in so few days!
3) London Wonderground Festival (Southbank: 8th May - 30th Sept)
This exciting brand new festival of circus and cabaret is being brought to the Southbank courtesy of Underbelly, the organisers of the annual E4 Udderbelly festival which we told you about last month. Described as a 'playground of wonders and curiosities' this festival is set to light up the Southbank like never before. Don't miss it!
4) Museums At Night (Various venues: 18th - 20th May)
This hugely sucessful, three evening, countrywide event brings the great British Museums to all you night owls… Perhaps a candlelit evening at the Sir John Soanes Museum or the rather gruesome sounding 'Surgery by Gaslight and Other Medical Tales' at the Old Operating Theatre Museum - the perfect idea for a date with a difference..
5) Regent's Park Open Air Theatre (Regent's Park: 18th May - 8th Sept)
Clap your hands and shout for joy, it's the start of London's open air season at Regent's Park and we don't think there's a better date out there. This year we have Ragtime The Musical, A Midsummer Night's Dream plus comedy, music and film. Book your tickets this instant!
6) Chelsea Flower Show (Royal Hospital, Chelsea: 22nd - 26th May)
…And finally one for the gardeners amongst you… We hear that tickets have nearly sold out, so hurry!
